The Great Gatsby (2D) [PG-13]
(2:15)    5:50    8:45

Picture
"The Great Gatsby" follows would-be writer Nick Carraway as he leaves the Midwest and comes to New York City in the spring of 1922, an era of loosening morals, glittering jazz, bootleg kings, and sky-rocketing stocks. Chasing his own American Dream, Nick lands next door to a mysterious, party-giving millionaire, Jay Gatsby, and across the bay from his cousin, Daisy, and her philandering, blue-blooded husband, Tom Buchanan. It is thus that Nick is drawn into the captivating world of the super rich, their illusions, loves and deceits. As Nick bears witness, he pens a tale of impossible love, incorruptible dreams and high-octane tragedy, and holds a mirror to our own modern times and struggles. -- (C) WB Runtime: 155mins

Mick LaSalle @ San Francisco Chronicle says, "The good news about Baz Luhrmann's adaptation of the Fitzgerald masterpiece is that he doesn't use the novel as a mere pretext for his own visual invention, but genuinely tries to capture the Fitzgeraldian spirit, and for the most part, despite some vulgar lapses, he succeeds."

The Place Beyond the Pines [R]
8:40

Picture
The highly anticipated new drama from director Derek Cianfrance ("Blue Valentine") powerfully explores the consequences of motorcycle rider Luke's (Academy Award nominee Ryan Gosling) fateful decision to commit a crime to support his child. The incident renders him targeted by policeman Avery (Golden Globe Award nominee Bradley Cooper), and the two men become locked on a tense collision course which will have a devastating impact on both of their families in the years following. -Focus Runtime: 150mins

MIck LaSalle @ San Francisco Chronicle says, "Derek Cianfrance's 140-minute epic, taking place over 15 years and following the lives of three men, is an ambitious and successful film that captures a mood. About fathers and sons, about fate and about corruption, its meaning is elusive but poetic, and the film features strong performances by Ryan Gosling and Bradley Cooper."
